The non-verbal and group dynamics skills we train are to do with external behaviour only. They have nothing to do with personality, IQ, or values and beliefs. It is true, however, that the use of these techniques is likely to affect your internal state in that you will feel more confident as you discover how easy it is to influence other people’s behaviour and achieve your outcomes. Beware of the booby prize!
When you first encounter these non-verbal skills you may be tempted to think they are simple. Be wary though of having only the cognitive level of understanding; it is the booby prize. Certainly you can learn something of the skills by reading about them or watching a DVD, but to benefit fully from them you really do need to practise them, just as you would practise a new sport or dance.
